President Barzani and Brett McGurk Meet



Salahadin, Kurdistan Region of Iraq. President Masoud Barzani received a United States government delegated which was headed by Brett McGurk, the Special Presidential Envoy for the Global Coalition to Counter the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant. The delegation also included Douglas Silliman, the U.S. ambassador to Iraq.

The meeting started with both sides discussing the latest regional developments and the ongoing efforts to exterminate the terrorists of the Islamic State in Iraq, Syria and beyond. The two sides also spoke of the developments in Syrian Kurdistan and possible collective efforts to help further stabilize their areas.

Mr. McGurk also made reference to the fact that the United States government will continue to support Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. On that note, President Barzani and Mr. McGurk spoke of the ongoing efforts to form the new Iraqi government. The President reiterated his insistence on forming a government on the basis of partnership, consensus and power-sharing balance, all in accordance to the Constitution.
