The meeting commenced with ambassador Satterfield conveying greetings from Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo to President Barzani. The President warmly welcomed the delegation before discussing several key issues concerning the bilateral relations between Baghdad and Erbil, adding that further strengthening those relations will certainly be of mutual interest. The two sides also spoke of the situation in Syria following the end of the caliphate of the Islamic State
During the meeting, State Secretary Jaeger briefed the President on his visit to Iraq and spoke of some avenues of cooperation. President Barzani and the German delegation also discussed the political developments in Iraq, the Kurdistan Region and beyond. The President highlighted some issues such as the enhancement of the relations between Erbil and Baghdad.

The delegation also included Mr. Andre Peek, the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Iran and Iraq at the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs.
