President Barzani Receives U.S. Chargé d'Affaires

The meeting addressed recent developments in the region, relations between Erbil and Baghdad, and oil exports. Both parties reaffirmed their support for U.S. oil companies that have signed agreements with the Kurdistan Regional Government in accordance with the law and the constitution. There was a consensus that the issue of salaries and financial entitlements for the Kurdistan Region should be resolved and that public financial payments to the citizens of Kurdistan Region should not be part of political disputes

The meeting was also attended by Mr. Andrew Beasley, the British Consul General in Erbil. President Barzani extended a warm welcome to Ambassador Siddiq, congratulated him on his new role, and conveyed his full support and best wishes for success in his diplomatic mission

The two sides also discussed the political situation in Iraq, Syria, and the broader region, exchanging views on key challenges facing the peace process in Turkey, the current status and future of Kurdish political parties in Syria, and their relations with the emerging Syrian government

Biography

Masoud Barzani was born 16 August 1946 in Iranian Kurdistan, during the short-lived Republic of Mahabad.
