Masoud Barzani

On Friday, January 30, 2026, President Masoud Barzani held a telephone conversation with Mr. Tom Barrack, the Special Envoy of the President of the United States for Syria.

During the conversation, Mr. Barrack expressed his appreciation to President Barzani, on behalf of himself and the President of the United States, for President Barzani’s significant role in achieving the ceasefire and in supporting dialogue between the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces. He also commended President Barzani’s contribution to the agreement reached on Friday between the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces.

In the same conversation, President Barzani conveyed his sincere gratitude to the President of the United States and to all parties who contributed to resolving the issues through dialogue. He expressed his support for the agreement reached on Friday, December 30, 2026, emphasizing its importance in consolidating peace. President Barzani also thanked Mr. Tom Barrack for his influential role in advancing agreement and peace in the region in general and in Syria in particular.

With regard to the situation in Iraq, Mr. Barrack called on President Barzani to play an important role in addressing the current political situation. President Barzani stressed that the primary foundation for stability and the resolution of issues lies in the implementation of the constitution, respect for the rights of Iraq’s components to determine their own future, and the protection of Iraqi sovereignty.
