President Barzani Receives an E.U Delegation



Salahadin, Kurdistan Region of Iraq, (Barzani Headquarters) President Masoud Barzani received a European Union delegation which included the deputy Prime Minister of Belgium, Mr. Alexander De Croo and Mr. Christos Stylianides, the EU commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management. During the meeting, President Barzani and the EU delegation discussed the current political developments in Baghdad and Erbil and spoke of new ways to further develop the bilateral relations.

President Barzani and his guests discussed the situations in Iraq and Syria after the military defeat of the terrorists of the Islamic State and how their remnants continue to pose a direct threat to the Kurdistan Region, Iraq and Syria. The two sides also spoke of the need to assist the very large project of Mosul reconstruction after the occupation of the city from the terrorists of the Islamic State.

The President took advantage of the opportunity to express his gratitude to Europe for their support to the Kurdistan Region during the challenging times when they faced an existential threat from the terrorists of the Islamic State. Both Mr. De Croo and Mr. Stylianides acknowledged the crucial role of the Peshmerga forces in the ongoing efforts to completely rid the region and the world of the terrorists of the Islamic State.
